It isn’t hard to hang wallpaper for those who have excellent instructions to follow. Are you fired up to rejuvenate your interior?

If wallpaper is a new venture for you, be sure to select your type carefully by reading the various kinds at the store. The kind of wallpaper you choose will determine the installation requirements. Pre-pasted wallpaper possesses a dry paste that is already attached to the back of the paper. This kind of wallpaper employs water to switch on the paste. The unpasted types require a wet paste that is applied when installing.. Typically, the installation approach is the same although depending on which type you use the instructions may vary.

These four easy steps will help you with any wallpaper method: Measure, Cut, Activate with water or paste and lastly, hang.

Wall Preparation

Prior to getting started, clear your workspace and the surface area. Remove wall fixtures and ensure electrical outlets are switched off. Use TSP or some wall cleaner to clean the wall work surface and prep it by ensuring any previous wallpaper or paste is removed.

Rely on a premixed universal primer designated for wallpaper to be sure your surface is prepared. If you are using unpasted wallpaper, priming the wall is important to facilitate easier removal.

Measure & Activate the Paper

Begin with measuring the wall length. Next, add four inches and after that cut your wallpaper. Ideally, you want the paper overlapping at the baseboard and the ceiling by roughly two inches.

Generate pattern match via random, straight across, or drop match.

If hanging unpasted wallpaper…

You can either apply the paste to the wall or paste the paper. If you apply the paste to the walls, cover the region for one strip only and be sure to apply the product evenly. If pasting the wallpaper, apply an even layer of paste to the back of the wallpaper, working from the centre to the edges. Next, loosely fold up the moistened strip with the pasted pieces together. Give it time to sit for three minutes in a method known as “booking.”

Discover your preference with unpasted wallpaper to determine if you prefer applying the paste on the wall or to the rear of the paper. If applying to the wall, be sure to evenly apply the paste to an spot for one strip of wallpaper at a stretch. Place an even coating of paste on the backside of the wallpaper if you're applying it straight to the wallpaper. Begin in the middle of the wallpaper portion and move toward the external edges. Booking the wallpaper is a necessary step that is completed by loosely folding the moistened strip of wallpaper and positioning the pasted segments together. Enable the booking aka folded wallpaper to remain in this manner for 3 minutes.

If you are hanging heavier wallpapers that incorporate embroidery, cork, or flock in their design, look for a heavyweight clear, stain-free pre-mixed paste to handle the excess weight instead of a light-to-medium product.

When hanging pre-pasted wallpaper…

Take your cut strip and rotate it loosely with pasted portion out and designed side in. Then put the rolled strip for half a minute into warm water to enable the paste to activate. You can also rely on a wallpaper hand sprayer that secretes a fine water mist to switch on the pasted segment.

Spray the paper in long strokes running the length of the wallpaper to fully saturate the strip. Take additional care around the edges to produce even watering. Have the pasted sides together by folding each part of the strip toward the middle. Carefully align the sides so they don’t dehydrate. Lastly, roll-up the strip much like a loose newspaper and allow it to sit for 3 minutes to allow the paper to relax and the paste to be wholly activated.

Hanging your first strip

Once the booking process is complete after three minutes, take your strip to the wall. Diligently unfold the strip and hang it up. The paper can suspend over the baseboard and also the ceiling. Remove any air bubbles employing a smoothing brush or broad knife or a plastic smoother. Push on the wallpaper to enable adequate contact and adhesion to the wall. Don’t distort or stretch out the wallpaper. Use a seam roller to softly flatten the seams.

Proceeding to the second strip

To apply the next strip, butt it up against the edge of the first wallpaper strip. Press and even out completely. Wash the baseboard and ceiling after to eliminate any residual paste. Ideally, your joints should be vertical with a tight fit. The paste has to be free from air bubbles for the best results.

Upon installing 3 wallpaper pieces and eliminating any excess paste, step back and analyze your work. Check the sections for color and design uniformity. Proceed in the same way, three panels each time around your space. Allow yourself more installation and selvage trimming time when you find yourself dealing with complex patterns and geometrical designs. Whenever your eyes and arms are tired, have a break and have some rest. Don’t hasten your wallpaper project. Follow the steps above to hang all of your strips. After all panels have been installed, carefully cut across the ceiling and the baseboards. It is recommended that you count on a guide and a razor knife to facilitate trimming without tearing.
